I am a full time
writer, a sometime
musician, and a hopeless
cat lady. I'm much more
boring than I
used to be, which probably isn't saying all that much. I like to
cook, I know a lot of
interesting people, and I have some
pictures.
The images on this page are the designs I used for my tattoos. The two
spiralesque designs are variations on the Maori koru (pronounced
kaw-roo), which is meant to represent a new shoot of a fern
opening up, thus symbolizing growth, rebirth, and new beginnings. The
simpler single koru was my first tattoo. I got the idea when my friend
Jenine sent me a koru bone
carving from New Zealand. I'd been wanting a tattoo for a long time,
but I was waiting for just the right image.
When I opened the package, I knew I'd found it.
The third design is a Pictish stone carving. I found the image on the web, at a site with a variety of other designs. It's in among some animal forms, but they label it a flower. It doesn't look at all like a flower to me, though -- it looks like a smiling alien with eyestalks. Proof of ancient astronauts? Perhaps, but once I'd had the tattoo done, I discovered that when you tip it to the left, it's obviously meant to be a snail.
